make an extra 1,000 per month

If you’ve been looking to make some extra cash, you don’t have to look too far. Maybe you’ve had your eye on a new computer or a new dress or a killer pair of shoes. Or perhaps you’re looking to pad your savings account for a future event like a move or a super fun vacation. Whatever the reason, it’s never been easier to make some extra dough these days. Here are some ways to make an extra $1,000 per month:

Babysitting or Petsitting

There are all kinds of apps to connect you with parents or pet owners who are looking for someone to watch their human kids or their fur-kids for a night or two. Apps like Bambino and UrbanSitter are the 2019 iteration of the Baby-Sitters Club and can land you some pretty well paying sitting jobs in your area.

Likewise, Rover is an excellent app for folks looking to make some extra money. Sometimes you can get lucky scanning your local Facebook groups or even checking out what your neighbors are posting on Nextdoor to find some babysitting and petsitting opportunities.

The average pay for babysitters is around $14 to $17, depending on where you live, so keep this in mind when you negotiate your price!

A lot more millennials prefer the freedom of freelancing. Freelancing is great because you set your own hours and you can really offer whatever skills you have.

If you’ve got a lawn mower and some spare hours on the weekend you can offer to mow someone’s lawn. If you are handy with WordPress you can offer to be someone’s moderator and edit and schedule their posts on their blog. Artists who are handy with Photoshop or writers can all offer their skills to willing buyers online.

All of these services can be advertised on apps like Fiverr. These apps are good because there are also a host of potential clients who know to go to those apps and look for freelancers. So long as you’ve got a skill, you’ve got a way to make a few extra bucks. Not sure how to make an extra $1,000 freelancing? Start thinking about the skills you possess and what people need.

I’ve personally tried transcribing as a side hustle and was pretty pleased with the pay. I signed up on Rev.com and made a decent amount of money by transcribing a bunch of different files.

If you type pretty quickly, transcribing might be your new favorite side gig. You can do it in the comfort of your home whenever you want. You do have to be pretty quick to snag transcription jobs but once you get the hang of it, then it’s pretty simple.

I also liked listening to all the different kinds of notes people took or conversations they had it’s almost like being a fly on the wall. It is pretty tedious work so if you’re not a detail-oriented person, then you might not find this worth your time.

Donate Plasma

If you live in the U.S. you can check if there are any plasma donation centers in your area. According to Octapharma Plasma, your plasma could vary in value but new donors can make up to $250 for their first five plasma donations, at $50 per donation.

Secret Shopper

Being a secret shopper is pretty cool but it requires people who are rather detail-oriented.

Sites like Intelli-shop or Coyle will pay you to basically do things you probably would’ve already done like order shoes online or buy a meal at a fast food restaurant and they ask you to sign up as a secret shopper.

Sometimes you’ll get reimbursed for the shop, depending on what it is. It helps to have a cellphone with photo and video capabilities so you can take photos that accompany the surveys you’ll fill out after every job. Depending on the job, it could pretty lucrative.

I’ve seen secret shopper jobs that will reimburse you for shops and pay up to $60 per job. The most interesting job I ever saw was a paid two-night stay at a fancy hotel. Also you should note that jobs will vary based on where you live.

Teach English or Tutor

There are always a lot of websites looking to hire English speakers to teach non-English students the language. So if you’re a native English speaker, you have a leg up.

If you also have a bachelor’s degree you can easily sign up for websites like VIPKid and make some extra money teaching students English. There are a few people who have shared their teaching and application experience on YouTube. Look those videos up if you’re looking to make your best impression on the interviewer.

If you prefer a more relaxed schedule, you can always sign up to tutor a student in English. Sign up with websites like Chegg, Brainfuse and Tutor.com to become a tutor.

This isn’t the most lucrative option but it is the easiest thing to do to earn a little bit of money. You can sign up for Amazon’s Mechanical Turks and perform simple computer tasks.

Mechanical Turks offers a few cents for tasks, but because the tasks are so easy you can breeze right through them. Every cent will add up.

Spare5 offers a similar opportunity. They’ll pay people to annotate images or isolate items in a picture or assess what language is being spoken in an audio file. One of the major benefits of these micro-tasks websites is flexibility it offers. You can basically do the least and work whenever you want. Spare5 says they’ll pay up to $8 to $12 an hour for tasks.

Obviously, the more tasks you do, the more you get paid.

This is just a short list of job ideas you can undertake to help make an extra $1,000 a month. I recommend you also download the Steady app for more work from home options. If you’re looking for more steady part-time work, the app Snag is great for looking for work in your area.

There you have it! I hope this list was helpful to you, and more importantly, your bank account. Hopefully, you’re able to find the right gig or combination of gigs to help you make an extra $1,000 a month.
